Spring Local Assembly – Wednesday, 13th May
Family Carers Ireland is inviting you to attend your Local Spring Assembly to ensure your voice is heard as we plan for the future together. It is so important to us to hear your stories and views. Refreshments will be provided and a light lunch. Please see poster above for further details and how to register.

The year is flying by and it will National Carers Week before we know it. Athlone Escape Wednesday, 10th June

Join us for a relaxing Athlone Escape as part of National Carers Week. Carers are invited to make their own way to Athlone for an 11:45am meet-up. Enjoy a lovely boat trip on the Shannon, lunch together, an afternoon stroll around the town, and time for a little retail therapy before returning home.

Come along and meet other parents who understand the challenges faced when caring for a child with a hidden disability. This supportive group of parents is always welcoming new members so join today by emailing Norah at nduffy@familycarers.ie This is a safe, welcoming space to talk, share and learn from each other. Delivery via Zoom. This group meets on the last Thursday of each month. This group also has an evening session on the second Wednesday of each month. You are welcome to join one or both, or just drop in whenever it suits/is needed, whatever works for you.

Supporting Adults with Intellectual Disability

This presentation for parents and family members supporting adults with an Intellectual Disability, offers a compassionate, neuroaffirmative space that recognises the long arc of parenting into adulthood, and the emotional, physical, and practical realities that come with it. Delivered by Amanda McGuinness, Autism specialist and parent to four Autistic children, two of whom have an Intellectual Disability, this presentation combines lived experience with practical, evidence-informed guidance. Practical, evidence-informed strategies are explored across key areas and the presentation also acknowledges the long-term reality of caregiving into adulthood and draws on approaches and supports that Amanda has found sustaining in her own parenting journey, as well as in her work alongside other families navigating similar experiences.
